NLP works with districts as well as individual schools. The project design generally includes an assessment of district and/or school needs, help in building and supporting literacy leadership teams, and work to create a common vision for the literacy improvement effort.

Working closely with district literacy coaches, NLP Partners supported a literacy improvement effort in three middle schools and one high school in Jefferson County, CO during the 2008-2009 school year. This effort included intensive implementation of selected literacy support strategies in classrooms across each school, a literacy showcase, and supporting the dynamic work of building level literacy leadership teams. During the 2009-2010 school year, two more middle and two more high schools were added to the project.  During the 2011-2012 school year, three more schools were added to the project and more and more of the delivery is being assumed by school and district facilitators. The Jeffco Literacy Project has served to build capacity in schools and across the district in providing literacy support to students.

Funded by the Helios Educational Foundation, the two-year (2009-2011) Pinellas Literacy Leadership Project involved four high and two middle schools. These six schools came together in June to access their schools using the Literacy Action Rubrics and develop literacy action goals and implementation maps. Each NLP School Partner provided support for the literacy leadership team as they implement their respective goals. An emphasis in this Project is on improving math and science content literacy and learning.
During the 2011-2012 school year, NLP Partners are working with district literacy coaches who, in turn, work with Assistant Principals from each of the 38 middle and high schools in the district.  In addition, a district level literacy team has formed and is setting goals and an implementation plan for the district’s secondary schools.
